Our Team

Flat Tire Cycling Team

The Flat Tire Cycling Team was formed in 2015 with the support of Flat Tire Bike Shop and the generous support of local sponsors. Team Flat Tire is one of the youngest and fastest growing clubs in the region. The team is comprised of seasoned experts and aspiring sport class racers.

The Flat Tire Cycling Team is registered with USA Cycling with the goal of harboring environment for young cyclist to develop their skill sets with the guidance of more experienced members.  Flat Tire Elite riders follow a regimented training plans while guiding and helping less experienced riders to meet their full potential. This approach has contributed to our success in winning and placing respectably in many local and regional series in a variety of classes and cycling disciplines including cross country mountain bike racing, enduro mountain bike racing, road racing, cyclocross racing, and triathlon.

Team members are active within our community as race organizers, Bike PGH employees, P3R employees, members of USA Cycling, and ride leaders. Bio:

Anthony Bowman, Age 14. Avonmore, Pa and Kiski School. I started mountain biking in 2016 and have been hooked. I competed in sport class Bike the Wilds series where I had great sucuess. I look forward to racing in the WVMBA enduro and cross country series in 2017. I am excited to be part of the Flat Tire Cycyling Club and look forward to developing my skill sets and speed.

Bio:

Tim Carson, Age 41. Leechburg, Pa. I started biking as a young kid and raced bmx for many years before getting into cross country and most recently enduro mountain biking. I have had over 20 years of racing experience. I am currently one of the mechanics at Flat Tire Bike Shop. I run my own mobile repair van Spokes Mobile Bike Shop. I specialize in mountain bike custom builds, custom wheel building, and suspenion service. My favorite job is being a full time Mr. Mom for my awesome 2 year old daughter, Kit Carson. I look forward to improving my speed and endurance for 2017.

    Bio:

    Nick Cicio, Age 24. Pitsburgh, PA.  I love the sport of cycling and just recently got into racing competitively. You can find me swimming in lakes, mountain biking and, running up mountains. My main focus is Xterra Triathlons. I also enjoy competing in local grass roots mountain series such as Ride YC, Bike the Wilds, and Month of Mud. I love encouraging people to get outside to run, or to ride a bike. I am excited to be part of the team in 2017 and work towards meeting my goals while supporting my teammates.

    Bio:

    Nick Fischer, Age 32. Greensburg, PA. I started biking at 17 and raced many years as a cat 3/4 road racer and cyclocross racer. I recently started mountain bike racing more regularly in 2015. I enjoy riding my cross and mountain bike on the paths less traveled. I support Flat Tire at their events as a registered R.D.N. proving food for participants and volunteering at the shop when I can. I am in charge of both youth programming and kids rides from Flat Tire Bike Shop. I look forward to supporting the team and racing whatever we get into for 2017.

      Bio:

      Brandon Maywood, race age 21, Irwin PA. With 2016 being my most successful year of racing, i am looking to improve upon that in 2017. I have moved up into expert class in MTB and will be looking to get my cat 4 upgrade on the road as well.       Bio:

      Elise Moore, age 28. Greensburg, PA. I grew up in the small town of Apollo, known for the Roaring Run mountain bike trails! I have recently got into the sport of cycling and just completed my first season of racing mountain bikes and took a stab into the cross racing scene as well. My focus is to have fun and make sure when I see Mike Briggs I am smiling in all my pictures so everyone thinks I am not remotely suffering at any point in time.  I also hate climbing hills but hoping this year I don't hate them so much.  In addition to that, my plan is to "compete" in the WVMBA women's open sport XC mountain bike series through the spring and summer months.  After that wraps up, I am hoping to take a serious stab into the cross racing scene in Women's Cat 4.

      Andrew Orischak, Age 27, Hunker, PA. 2016 marked my 3rd year in competitive cycling and my first full season of racing the mountain bike expert class.       Doug Orischak, 49, Hunker, PA. 2 years into my return to competitive cycling after my 20 year break continues to be very rewarding. I enjoy racing and training with my son Andrew in a variety of cycling disciplines. Competition is exhilarating; but I also enjoy the social element that riding and racing offers me and my family with making new friends, meeting new families and having fun along the way! I raced in over 40 events in 2016, enjoying many wins and podiums in the process and look forward to the similar successes in 2017 for myself, my son and my teammates.

      Bio:  

       Ted Rodgers, 58, Belle Vernon, PA. A recreational cyclist for many years until my son talked me into doing a mountain bike race one Saturday several years ago.  My primary focus is Cyclocross which I got hooked on  in 2012 when I did my first ABRA CX race.  I've since been expanding my interest to include both mountain bike and road racing.  Joining the Flat Tire Co. Race Team last year has been very rewarding and look forward to continue racing with teamates.

      Bio:

      Alex Shewczyk, Age 26, Pittsburgh, PA. In 2017, I'm extremely excited for my "A" race at USA Triathlon Age Group National Championships in Omaha, Nebraska. My primary goals for this year are to podium in olympic and sprint distance triathlon races around the northeast including competitions in Pennsylvania, New York, and Maryland. I'm thrilled for the upcoming triathlon season, but I'm also excited to start road racing! I am pumped to be a part of the 2017 Flat Tire Company Race Team and look forward to fantastic year with my teammates!

        Bio:

        Tom Svec, 25, North Huntingdon, PA. I have been competing in sports all of my life, and more recently discovered a love of cycling while in graduate school. Where I completed my first sprint triathlon, I was hooked to the competition that was available. In 2016 after completing physical therapy school, I purchased a mountain bike and have been completing multiple XC races in the beginner category. I am looking forward to competing in the sport class next season and growing my cycling experience and technical skills.
